BEF Awards Grants from 2013 Taste of Basalt

The Basalt Education Foundation (BEF) is pleased to announce its annual Taste of Basalt, held November 2, 2013, raised more than $80,000 to enhance education in the three Basalt public schools.

In a departure from how money was distributed to schools in the past, BEF now funds school programs in the early winter, as well as in the late spring. About $40,000 has been designated for Basalt schools during this current granting cycle, including support for the following:

  •  ACES environmental education, library books, Mr. G’s science program, computers, and art supplies at BES: $12,000
  • Band program, outdoor education, social studies and science library materials, and science lab supplies at BMS: $12,000
  • Computers, cameras, graphing calculators, spring musical, Model United Nations/World Affairs Competition, and teacher training at BHS: $19,500

In other exciting news, the Roaring Fork Charity Classic, a local golf tournament held each spring at the Roaring Fork Club, will benefit the Basalt Education Foundation for the next two years.
