Taste of Basalt Raffle Winner Pays it Forward
Marina Rivas, a senior at Basalt High School, who just moved to the Roaring Fork Valley from El Salvador six months ago, is the lucky recipient of a new iPad Air to aid in her homework and college applications, thanks to a generous local donor who wishes to remain anonymous.
This anonymous angel, a Roaring Fork Valley resident, won the second-prize iPad Air last month in the annual Taste of Basalt raffle, sponsored by the Basalt Education Foundation. She wanted to donate it to a BHS student who might not otherwise be able to afford one.
BHS English Language Development teacher Ticia Ingram worked with BHS Principal David Schmid to ask a few potential recipients to write a short essay detailing how they would use an iPad Air.
Dedicated and hard-working Marina Rivas was awarded the iPad Air. The motivated student plans to apply to nursing school after graduation.
